A copy editor at the Tyler Morning Telegraph, on P1, the day after J6, ran a fake cutline. Said it was a gag and expected news editor or somebody else to catch it.

Before I start unwinding for the night (not Friday night lights, but Oktoberfest locally) two other thoughts on this from me:

As I expect you know, Albuquerque PD had been under that DOJ consent order that they just got out from under. And, as Searchlight NM has reported, the special master basically did nothing on actual enforcement.

Per the last part of the piece, was he Mirandaed or not? The piece says he entered his guilty plea without counsel, and only later did he get an attorney who fought to withdraw that.

That said? You’re the top editor of a fair-sized metropolitan newspaper. Shouldn’t you know your Miranda rights? Gets back to how did this guy jump from Beatrice, Nebraska???

From a purely journalistic POV? Beatrice, Nebraska is a LOT smaller paper. How and why did he make that jump in the first place?
